The Mk-82 500lb General Purpose Bomb is an air dropped 500 pound bomb that can be modified with different fins and fusing for different missions.

Attack jets that utilize the MK-82 are no longer stationed in Hawaii due to the departure of US Marine Corps Fighter/Attack squadrons moving to former MCAS El Toro and to Okinawa.  However, the P-3 Wing in Hawaii can still use them for Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW) and the bomb can be configured as the Mk-36 "Destructor" mine.

The NAMBP Mk-82 bombs are configured with the Mk-15/Mod 0 Hi or Low drag fin assembly.  This gives the aircrew the ability to escape the bomb's devastating effects during a low level attack.  They were certified inert and donated by the EOD team from Pearl Harbor Naval Magazine West Loch in 2004.

The museum's bombs will be mounted on our F-4N Phantom II and on one of our A-4E Skyhawks when we acquire the proper racks and pylons.  If anyone can assist the museum and/or is knowledgeable with ordnance, please contact us.
